The shortest cable length (17" from needle tip to tip) is fluid and a pleasure to knit with, which is generally unheard of in needle sets. The shortest lengths of other sets start at 20", and yet still tend to be stiffer and harder on the hands than the Denise set. Since the 17" length is such a convenient size to use (great for hats!), it makes the Denise set really stand out in versatility and knitting comfort.
Denise needles are made from resin. In terms of smoothness when knitting, they are not as smooth as metal needles, which is the main reason one might consider a metal-tipped set. On the other hand, they're still quite smooth (in fact smoother than bamboo needles), and they won't have the ice-cold feel of metal when the weather is cool.
It is a set of needles with a range of needle sizes and lengths. A kit contains "needle tips" in various sizes. A pair of tips is attached to either end of a cable, to create the most versatile type of needle there is: a "circular" knitting needle. You can use the needle for circular knitting, regular flat knitting, and even for small-diameter circular knitting, although you may prefer to purchase double pointed needles (DPN's) for that.
Kits like this are a money saver from buying individual needle sizes. There are 10 tip sizes, but since you need different length cable needles for various circular projects, this kit actually replaces more than 40 different circular needle sizes...for a fraction of the cost. But above all, a kit is a convenient, portable way to always have the needle size you need on hand! Highly recommended, I do most of my knitting on my set. (Okay, sets...I own more than one!)

The needles are OK if you like plastic. I know the info said resin but I had high hopes they wouldn't be so slippery.. I knit loose so they can be a little too slick for me.

I bought this set of needles, from this site, because the description said that the shortest length was 17 inches. However, when I got the set and put together the size 8 tips with the shortest cable in the set, they measured 20 inches tip-to-tip. This is too long for the hat I wanted to make. Disappointing.
KnittingHelp.com Response: It looks like you are not using the correct cable. There is an L-shaped cable on the right side of the kit. This needle, when paired with needles from the right side of the kit will produce a 17" cable. It's easy to overlook. We hope this helps. Thanks for ordering from us!
